ASM’s Blog Policy for the Clinical Microbiology Web Portal
This policy contains guidelines for blog authors and participants to follow when partaking in the American Society for Microbiology’s Clinical Microbiology Web Portal. For additional information, please refer to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy available on the website.  This Blog Policy is a supplement to and does not supersede the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Policy for Blog Authors

1. As a blog author, you are solely responsible for the material you submit for posting on the website.  It is your responsibility to ensure that the material is accurate and complete; is not unlawful, obscene, fraudulent, or indecent; does not defame, abuse, harass or threaten others; and is not hateful or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable.

2. Do not post any information protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner.

3. Do not use the blog for the purpose of commerce or advertising.  You must comply with any legal requirements related to commercial use of blogs, including, but not limited to, Federal Trade Commission requirements that bloggers disclose relationships with vendors of products that are discussed in a blog.

4. Any discussion of the relative merits of products in your blog (such as indicating a preference for one product over another or offering an opinion on the suitability or capability of a product) must be based on peer-reviewed literature and you must cite to that literature in your discussion.

5. Federal anti-trust laws make it illegal for competitors or potential competitors to fix prices in any way.  This prohibition applies to discussion of specific prices, costs or rate structures among ASM members.  Do not post any information in your blog that would be a violation of the anti-trust laws.

6. Do not include any personal identifying or private medical information about a third party in your blog, especially information restricted from release under the Privacy Act or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

7. Show respect and consideration in your postings to other bloggers and those submitting comments on the website.

8. ASM maintains the sole right to remove blog postings for any reason at any time.

9. ASM reserve the right to amend this Blog Policy, the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy as may be necessary, and you are encouraged you to review them periodically.
