Molecular Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases: Applications and Challenges
This ten-part course designed for ASM members provides in-depth discussions of current trends and challenges associated with molecular diagnostic methods as they are used and encountered in the clinical microbiology laboratory. Participants will learn about issues related to laboratory design/workflow for molecular testing; quality control/assurance programs and proficiency testing; verification and implementation of multiplex tests; quantitative assays and standards; mass spectrometry; and cost analysis. The course will end by highlighting the many technological advances occurring in the field and their potential applications in clinical microbiology.

Lab Quality Mgmt System Training

The purpose of this WHO toolkit is to provide information on how to conduct quality control for qualitative and semi-quantitative testing in the laboratory. At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • differentiate between built-in and traditional controls;
  • describe how to use stock cultures for microbiology QC;
  • discuss the use of quality control procedures for stains used in microscopic examination;
  • describe methods for verifying performance of microbiological media.

National Training Lab Network

The National Laboratory Training Network (NLTN)TM, a joint program of APHL and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) develops and delivers education programs for professionals in both public and private sector laboratories. Since its inception nearly 20 years ago, the NLTNTM has presented over 4,700 courses reaching well over 284,000 laboratory professionals.

The NLTNTM seeks to strengthen the quality of laboratory practice and the skills of laboratorians performing testing of public health significance. Most NLTNTM courses provide continuing education credits.The NLTNTM offers training in multiple formats to meet learners’ unique needs. Training ranges from broad overviews to step-by-step testing methods incorporating hands-on practical experience.
