Professional Certification

Professional Certification
Are you looking for a way to distinguish yourself in the laboratory? Do you want to document your abilities and validate your credibility to your employer? ASM certification can help you accomplish all of these goals. Certification is a voluntary process in which individuals are recognized for demonstrating required skills and knowledge. Many individuals seek certification to obtain credentials that will set them apart from others. Employers use certification to differentiate between similar candidates for a position.

ASM offers three certification boards.

American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM)
The ABMM certifies the expertise of doctoral-level microbiologists seeking to direct public health or clinical microbiology laboratories.

American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology (ABMLI)
The ABMLI certifies the expertise of doctoral-level immunologists seeking to direct laboratories engaged in the practice of medical laboratory immunology.

National Registry of Certified Microbiologists (NRCM)
The NRCM certifies professional microbiologists at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels in biological safety; food safety and quality; and pharmaceutical and medical device.

American College of Microbiology (College)
Visit the College if you are already certified.
