2018 ASM Clin Micro Open

The Clin Micro Open is a forum that brings together laboratory and industry leaders to discuss current and potential issues impacting the future of diagnostic clinical microbiology and explore mechanisms to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate challenges. The goal is to learn from each other by exchanging ideas and informal networking to cultivate partnerships and ultimately improve patient care.

This dynamic day-and-a-half forum will include keynote talks that are proposed and presented by the participants followed by roundtable discussions. Following each topic, attendees will be divided into smaller discussion groups with the intent of formulating recommendations for future activities or collaborations. These recommendations may be summarized and published to share with the clinical microbiology community.

ASM will host its first Clin Micro Open in West Palm Beach, Florida. It begins late in the afternoon on May 3 and concludes by 5:00 pm on May 4, 2018. There will be approximately 50 attendees with equal representation between laboratory and industry. Industry attendees will be members of ASM's Corporate Council and identified by their company. Federal employees will be invited participants. Laboratory leaders will be selected based on their submitted application and willingness to actively participate.

Applicants' names will be blinded and applications will be independently scored by the Clin Micro Open Steering Committee Co-Chairs, Drs. Chris Doern and Mike Dunne and the Steering Committee members, Drs. Marc Couturier, Sherry Dunbar, Amanda Harrington, Romney Humphries, Michael Lewinski and Celine Roger-Dalbert.

For the 20-25 laboratory leaders who are selected, ASM will provide up to $600 for coach-class airfare, two nights hotel at the PGA National Resort and Spa, on-site meals during the meeting and ground transportation. If you are speaking at the Clinical Virology Symposium (CVS), you will not be eligible for airfare since you will receive a CVS travel stipend.

Eligibility: ASM members who are working fulltime in a clinical or public health laboratory at the director-level who have submitted an application, agreed to present a 10-15 minute topic of their choice and actively participate in roundtable discussions and subsequent publication of the highlights.

Applications will be accepted until November 26, 2017. Applicants will be informed of the Steering Committee's decision by December 31, 2017. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with questions or concerns.
